THE RISK FOUNDRY MISSION
Teams you could work in
Our Level 3 Risk & Insurance Foundations Apprenticeship is designed to give you a comprehensive map of the global insurance hub and hands-on experience in the engines that power the London Market. You’ll gain experience across:
- Underwriting Support & Assistant Underwriting: Learning how to evaluate risks, manage policy documentation, and support the pricing of global assets.
- Junior Broking & Market Placement: Working at the heart of the deal-making process, connecting clients with insurers across the Lloyd’s and Company markets.
- Claims Administration & Technical Handling: Gaining insight into the "product in action" by managing the lifecycle of a claim from notification to settlement.
- Operations & Delegated Authority: Mastering the data, systems, and oversight required to manage global portfolios of business through MGAs and Coverholders.
- Service Delivery & Data Management: Ensuring market-leading accuracy in bordereaux, reconciliations, and digital platform hygiene.

THE RISK FOUNDRY MISSION
Things you could work on
You could find yourself:
- Mapping complex global risks from a local business to a multinational fleet tracing the flow of capital from the client through to the reinsurer.
- Supporting the "deal lifecycle" by preparing professional market submissions, entering technical underwriting data, and ensuring policy documentation is accurate.
- Managing the First Notification of Loss (FNOL) for claims, helping investigate the facts of a case, and learning how financial reserves are set.
- Conducting "Market Missions" during London Insurance Week, networking with brokers and underwriters to understand how the market solves world-scale problems.
- Designing and leading a Foundation Project to solve a real-world friction point in your team, such as improving data capture at the source or reducing document rework.


LIW RISKFOUNDRY MISSION
Your Qualification
Qualification: You’ll work towards a Level 3 Insurance Practitioner apprenticeship standard. You will have one dedicated “Academy Day” per week to focus on your off-the-job learning, skill-building, and professional development.
Duration: A 15-month practical period, followed by 3 months to complete your End-Point Assessment (EPA).
Course Delivery: Blended delivery featuring weekly interactive virtual classes, practical role-linked labs, and two high-impact physical immersion blocks at London Insurance Week (June 2026 and 2027).
Content: You’ll learn:
- The London Ecosystem: How the complex web of Lloyd’s, the Company Market, MGAs, and Brokers interact to provide global financial protection.
- The Lifecycle of Risk & Claims: How to navigate a risk from the initial submission and quote through to the adjustment and renewal, as well as the technical investigation of claims.
- Professional & Technical Excellence: Building the core pillars of a modern professional, including data literacy, regulatory conduct (Consumer Duty), business communication, and technical numeracy.
- Business Improvement: How to identify a real-world friction point in your team such as data accuracy or process speed and design a "Foundation Project" to solve it and present your impact to market leaders.
